I announced a little while back that I was about to release a new product line called the Wanderer. I have built up the prototype as you can see in the included images. I have two more of the full sized Wanderer bags on the table and I have two prototype Wanderer Messenger bags in progress. So, I’m sure you are asking (or I hope you are) what’s up with the Wanderer?
That’s a reasonable questions, and here is the answer. Supply. I selected a great leather that is very popular right now for the prototype.
The Crazy Horse Water Buffalo is a chestnut brown with a great grain pattern and a wonderful waxy feel. It is a really soft hand but not too soft to keep the bags sturdy. The problem is that it is nearly impossible to source at this time. That’s why I have spent the last few weeks looking for a replacement for the Crazy Horse.
Now, that does not mean I will not have Crazy Horse Water Buffalo in the future, but for now I will have to fall back to other oil tanned waxed leathers. The good news is that they all have a similar color, hand, and stability. Sitting on the leather rack at this moment, waiting to become a series of leather bags is a full side of oil tanned waxed leather that you will be seeing become a bag here soon.
It is a lighter caramel brown pull-up leather and will probably become the second color in the line because it is so similar to the Crazy Horse that I had to snap up the whole hide as soon as I found it.
What I need to know is if you like it. Let me know in the comments if you think this is a good additional color for the Wanderer line. I would love to hear from you what you think. Please let me know if you would be interested in pre-ordering a bag made with this leather.
What I have learned from this (I say learned, but I already knew this I had just forgotten it), is that leather supply is not as consistent as I would like. What that means to you is that your bag or pouch will always be unique (something I always knew as well). I cannot guarantee the color will be the same on every bag, but can guarantee the workmanship, hardware, leather, and soul put into every bag will be of the highest quality.
